Social Media vs Living Life

I almost forgot that I have a blog.  Luckily I’ve remembered my login details haha.

Something I ask a lot to myself is what is life…why do I question life?  I am not sure maybe because I do not have the perfect life that you see other people have on social media or even the life I portray on my social media.  Social media can be deceiving, taking photos at the right angles, applying the perfect filter  and posting it at just the right time to get many likes.  Checking in at places giving the idea that you are living the “high life” and in the mean time you just pass by.

Social media has made us gullible to many things and it “sells” an idea of what life should be and we miss it by far. We have the most awesome people in our lives, who are actually around us who accepts us without any special filter, but we miss it and seek things in a virtual world.  I’ve met a lot of people the last few weeks/months in the hope to make real friends and I’ve realised that people do not know anymore how to be around “physical” people.  They hide behind a device and can then fool anybody of who they really are.

Why do we seek “likes” from people (some of them you do not even know) and get depressed when we do not get those likes?  When have we become so shallow?

People will rather be with random people every night rather than having one person in their life to share life with.  There is no constant in that making you feel lonely at the end of the day.  With social media this is also a concern as that one person could “play” many people to make them feel wanted, keeping them just close enough to get the attention they want and when they want it.

I actually posted a lot of quotes about “effort” yesterday on my facebook page and in short nobody bothers anymore putting in the effort, whether a friendship or relationship.  I’ve realised that any relationship must be seen as an investment, you put in your time – your life – and at the end of the day you do not want to waste that life on somebody that wasn’t willing to do the same.  It will be like an investor throwing money down the drain.

I am single and let me tell you the dating scene has become something scary. These days you are loading yourself on a catalog with the best photos possible just in the hope that somebody will browse through the catalog and be interested in what they see.  Not to mention that you have to write something about yourself, and if you suck at writing this may be your downfall. You have to sell yourself just on photos and what you say about yourself.  Once you’ve passed this stage then it becomes interesting…you have to be able to keep a chat going…  Now these chats could go on for days even weeks.  When it is finally time to meet face-to-face you may be in for a surprise as what you saw in the catalog is not what you’ve expected…oops…there goes weeks of chatting…time wasted.

This bring me to my question?  What is life?  What I can tell you is that life isn’t what you see on social media…

Remembering my father

Today, 20 years ago, my father was suddenly taken from our lifes. Only a few hours before his death I was still with him not knowing what is laying ahead.  Life as I knew it changed on that day.  You have many questions and no answers. I remember we as a family wasn’t sure how to continue life without having him in it, however I can say today we survived and made it, although you do not have all the “why” answers.

My father taught me many things and added value to my life, which I still benefit from today.  You will always have memories and when you think about those memories you are taken back in time and experience them again. To trigger some of those memories you have photos:

Unfortunately digital cameras were not available yet at that time and we also didn’t take that much photos using your normal cameras. Actually the last photo I have is two years prior which we’ve captured from a video tape.

Why am I sharing this?  I want to tell anybody that has lost someone close to you that you will make it – just give it time.  Keep the memories, the photos and live your life as intended.  Nothing can bring them back.  Although I may have lost my father I was blessed with a dad that accepted me as his own, so although I lost someone I gained someone else.  You may not spend time anymore with the one you’ve lost but you may spend time with those that are still there.  Do not waste precious time and live your life with those still in it.

PS: I did something today what I never do or did over the last 20 years and that was visiting my father’s grave:

What I said 20 years ago I can still say today – he is not there…

Taking a break from YouTube

Hi there

It’s a year now that I’ve been making YouTube videos and I’ve learnt a lot throughout this year.  One thing that I’ve learnt is that it takes a lot of time to prepare a video, from capturing the footage to editing to the final video you are viewing.  When I do something I want to put all I have into it so that it could be a success.  The last few months I’ve battled to keep up with my weekly schedule of releasing a video and therefore I’ve made the decision to take a break from YouTube for a while – only until I’ve managed to release more time for it.

I’m in between a few development projects and it keeps me busy the whole time – I guess I didn’t manage my time correctly and now I have to work extra hours just to keep it above the water.  Once I’ve managed to get my schedule clear I will be posting videos again.  I will also be taking this time to decide where I want to go with the channel as at the moment it is very random – so watch this space.

Thank you for all those that have watched my videos up to now – I do appreciate it.

“Just Woke Up” Selfie

Helloooo everyone

You all are on social media and you see all these selfies of people and it looks like that they were attacked by a stylist just before they took the photo.  I mean really, who really looks like that when they just wake up.  Especially with woman, their make-up and hair are perfect in the photo they  “just woke up” to.

So I tried taking the perfect “Just Woke Up” selfie and yeah then realized I can’t post it – so I made a step-by-step guide on how to prepare yourself for such a selfie.

You may watch the video by clicking on the photo…

What is Life?

Oh wow I was here a long time ago…

This whole year I felt I was going somewhere until yesterday – yeah I had one of those days where I felt I’m going nowhere slowly.  Have you ever had a day like that – where it doesn’t make sense anymore?

Well this morning I decided to go to church, first time this year – not that it defines your relationship with God, but yeah long time since going to church – but that’s not what I want to talk about.

Usually when I get one of ‘these’ days I reflect on life and what life is all about.  Most of the times I luckily get to my answers fast before I may get depressed for days and then I continue with life as I know it.  This morning I remembered what I’ve read a few years back and what it has meant to me at that time.  I’m referring to John 6:16-21:

16And when even was now come, his disciples went down unto the sea,

17And entered into a ship, and went over the sea toward Capernaum. And it was now dark, and Jesus was not come to them.

18And the sea arose by reason of a great wind that blew.

19So when they had rowed about five and twenty or thirty furlongs, they see Jesus walking on the sea, and drawing nigh unto the ship: and they were afraid.

20But he saith unto them, It is I; be not afraid.

21Then they willingly received him into the ship: and immediately the ship was at the land whither they went.

At first if you read it you will go like, yeah I know it but what about it?  Look at the last verse…the word “immediately”… Makes you think doesn’t it? To get what I’m talking about go watch the video here:

Long weekend chills

This weekend is quite a long one, Friday was a public holiday and tomorrow (Monday) is another public holiday.  I must say it’s quite nice to relax a bit, however I may work tomorrow to catch up on some projects.

I hope we know why we have these public holidays and what the significance of these days are…  We are celebrating Easter and although it became a more commercial thing than what it is supposed to be we should take time and think what Jesus Christ did for us.  If it wasn’t for Him we would have been lost, but because He died for us and rose again on the 3rd day we can now have life and we can have it in abundance.  So come let’s live this life as it was intended.  I have to say there’s an atmosphere of peace hanging around – it’s quiet in the streets and it’s so peaceful. Maybe I’m the only one experiencing it but I hope others do also.

On another note, I release YouTube videos every Monday so I’ve almost skipped tomorrow, but luckily I came to my senses haha.  It was one of those on the spur of the moment videos – hopefully it will be something to watch.  If you are reading this before tomorrow you may be one of the first people to watch it as here is the direct link:

If you’ve watched this video you will see that I basically review an app I came across called “Face Swap Live”.  I have to say I quite enjoy the app and I’m just thinking on the technology in that app as it has to recognize a face, so I’m sure there is some sort of facial recognition within that app. Unfortunately no one was near when I did the video thus I couldn’t try out swapping out faces with another person – but I will try that out soon.

May you have an awesome weekend further!
Be blessed & PEACE!

Taking some time off

Hey you, live life!

Usually I will work whether it’s a public holiday or not.  Today was a public holiday here in South Africa and my plans were to do some work but somewhere my plans changed.  I just felt I need to get some rest from ‘normal work’ and do something totally different.

I got out of bed this morning and took my time to get to gym.  Why should I be in a hurry on a public holiday, right?  When I came back I took a shower and had breakfast. I then realized I still have to do washing and my softener was finished. I got into the car and went and bought softener.  Now usually when I go to the supermarket I get what I need and get out, this morning however I went for a stroll through the  supermarket.  There wasn’t something in particular I wanted to check out and just walked through the electronics department just to see is there anything I may want to get in future haha.  I even made a turn at the bicycles, oh and then I saw these toys from Star Wars and I was like: “mmm maybe I should watch Star Wars then I can get some of these toys”, because it looks pretty cool.

No I didn’t watch Star Wars since then.  I came back home after my stroll and put my washing in the washing machine.  After a few hours of playing around on the laptop I realized I still have to hang my washing out to dry. Oh now talking about it I must probably go and fetch it from outside.

So what did I do today?  I actually updated this website as I do not spend time with my own sites but today was an exception.  This brings me to the fact, because I haven’t spend time doing anything else, I didn’t iron, but luckily I have clothes for the rest of the week.

I have to admit I’m feeling good tonight although I haven’t sticked to my schedule as planned.  Maybe you just have to take some time and relax once in a while.  I bet tomorrow when I go to my office I will be ready to work with more energy than what I would have had if I did not take the time off.

What am I trying to say?  Don’t get into a working gear and forget to take a breather… (Note to self)

Where did the Easter Bunny come from?

We grow up with many things and when you get older you start to wonder of how things came about.  One of these things lately is where in the world did the Easter Bunny came from – not to mention that this bunny lay eggs.

So I went and read a few articles on the internet to get answers.  Unfortunately nobody can give the exact answers and many are just speculating.  From all of the articles I’ve read I could get a slight idea of how the Easter Bunny with its chocolates eggs made its way into our lives.

Unpacking the Apple Watch Sport

I am fortunate enough to have Discovery Medical Aid.  If there’s one thing you can say about Discovery is that they are always thinking out of the box.  To get their members more active they give you an Apple Watch Sport to motivate you to do exercise.  Of course their are some terms and conditions attached as always.

So how does it work? You pay an activation fee of R350.00 on your Discovery Credit Card (yeah they even have their own credit card).  You will in turn recieve a proof of payment you take to any Apple iStore and they will give you an Apple Watch Sport 38mm.  Jip just like that for R350.00 you have a brand spanking new Apple Watch Sport 38mm.  Now for the terms and conditions… you have to get active and reach goals set by Discovery each month.  Every week you have a new goal and these goals are customized to each individual.  Reach all your goals and you may enjoy your Apple Watch, however if you miss a goal you are penalized and a portion needs to be paid back on the watch.  Basically to make it easy to understand you buy the R6500,00 watch on your credit card over a invisible budget period.  Miss a goal and you need to pay part of that budget installment and if you miss all 4x goals in a month you obviously need to pay the full budget payment.  Reach all your goals within this 24 months and you would have only paid R350.00 for the watch.

Now the big question?  Will you be able to reach these goals?  Well from my experience it is definitely easy to reach these goals and you will for sure become more active.

What is life about?

Do you also get those days where you sit back and watch your life go through your mind? Now sometimes this is good and sometimes not so good.  Good because you reflect on what you’ve achieved so far and you basically immediately set new goals.  Not so good when you feel that you may have missed some things along the way.

To be honest I have these days where I feel I haven’t achieved much in life and if I’m not careful it may take me for a depression ride.  Now these rides you have to avoid at all times!  You may drive off too far and then it’s not that easy to get back.  I also recently lost a good friend of mine when he died of a heart attack.  It was out of the blue and not to mention that he was as young as me.  Now these events make you think.  It makes you think on what is life about and why are you even doing what you are doing.  Questions may also arise of if life is worth living to start of with? The short answer to this is YES!

I’m a positive person and always try to see the positive side in anything that happens.  I do not let negativity try to get the best of me, but as you may have seen in this post I have to keep my mind sound or I may not stay positive.

So what is life about?  Why are we on this earth if one day, it’s like “poof” and you are gone? I don’t have all the answers but I do know life is worth living and that we only have one life – so make the best of it!  If you are unhappy where you are at in your life, you have the power and only you have the power, to make a change for the better.  The only thing standing in your way is yourself.   I don’t say make irresponsible decisions, but you are in control of your life.  Make changes if that will make you live life as it was intended, full of joy, love & peace.

I believe in God and in His Son Jesus Christ and inHis Word He says that Jesus came to give us life and not just life, but life in abundance.  So why should we settle for less?

Here is a video where I just spoke about what was on my heart and I will followup with more videos and posts about this.
